Press Release – Inaugural Winner of the Victor Snieckus Fellowship

Montreal, Canada, November 1st, 2024

The Victor Snieckus Foundation (VSF) is thrilled to announce Dr. Xavier Bertrand from Université Laval as the inaugural recipient of the VSF post-doctoral fellowship. Xavier recently completed his PhD degree in the labs of Prof. Jean-François Paquin as well as Dr. Laurent Chabaud at the University of Bordeaux where he worked on the synthesis of tertiary aliphatic halides. He will utilize the fellowship funding to study the development of new strategies for fluorination at the labs of Institut National des Sciences Appliquées Rouen Normandie in the laboratiore de Chimie Organique, Bioorganique, Réactivité et Analyse (COBRA) lab of Dr. Tatiana Besset (URM6014) at the University of Rouen. Congratulations, Xavier!

The VSF Fellowship Program honours the legacy and passion of Professor Victor Snieckus by championing excellence in synthetic organic chemistry. Each year, a postdoctoral fellowship valued at $70,000 (CAD) is awarded to an outstanding Canadian graduate student who embodies the principles of Professor Snieckus to help advance their synthetic chemistry skills through an extraordinary postdoctoral experience.
